This was one of the largest off-site projects that we had been commissioned.
The pieces were for a bungalow with a minimal material palette of brick and concrete. Conforming to the minimalism that the house embodied, our intervention in the form of furniture was also minimum and earthy, complementary to the house.
Wood and wood stains were used to define and give character to each room.
This was also an extended exercise from the Nigel Peake project. We continued our exercises in “patterning” further on to a larger canvass. The large volumes of the wardrobes were broken down into various patterns, which were superimposed on the functional elements; the drawers and shutters of the cabinets. Handles and knobs were used to break the monotony of the patterns and to add subtleties wherever required.
Various sections of wood were used to create profiles for different objects in each room. All the pieces including the cupboards were made in the workshop and installed on site.
